Working with Attorneys, Part 1: Finding a Lawyer for Your Startup

Though the legal needs for your new consulting business may be simple at first, make sure you’re working with a good lawyer from the start.

Getting good legal advice can be expensive, but a good lawyer can save you and your business thousands of dollars.

Contrary to popular belief, a lawyer will not tell you exactly what you should or shouldn’t do. Rather, a lawyer is there to offer advice and identify risks. It’s up to the business owner to learn what risks they can tolerate.

In this video, I cover four considerations for finding a good lawyer:

  • Ask your network for names of lawyers
  • Look for lawyers who have experience in your field
  • Find a lawyer who’s familiar with your state’s regulations
  • A reliable attorney can help you structure your business
