Start a Consulting Business After a Layoff

Are you finding yourself at the end of a layoff notice? Have you considered starting your own business?

If you were hardworking in your job but still received that notice, donโ€™t feel bad. It may be about economic uncertainty and organizational restructuring rather than your performance.

Take some time to think if you want to immediately start looking for a new job or maybe look into utilizing your expertise as an independent consultant. This could be your opportunity to start your own business and later, grow it.

In a recent Fast Company article (https://www.fastcompany.com/90833197/…, I found two points particularly interesting:

  1. One is that the process of reaching out to your network for new consulting leads is not very different from the process of reaching out to your network for a new job.
  2. Another notable idea is that consulting can sometimes lead to a job offer. If this happens, you have options: return to full-time employment or take advantage of this first success as a consultant to build momentum for your own consulting business.
