Start a Consulting Business After a Layoff
Are you finding yourself at the end of a layoff notice? Have you considered starting your own business?
If you were hardworking in your job but still received that notice, don’t feel bad. It may be about economic uncertainty and organizational restructuring rather than your performance.
Take some time to think if you want to immediately start looking for a new job or maybe look into utilizing your expertise as an independent consultant. This could be your opportunity to start your own business and later, grow it.
In a recent Fast Company article (https://www.fastcompany.com/90833197/…, I found two points particularly interesting:
- One is that the process of reaching out to your network for new consulting leads is not very different from the process of reaching out to your network for a new job.
- Another notable idea is that consulting can sometimes lead to a job offer. If this happens, you have options: return to full-time employment or take advantage of this first success as a consultant to build momentum for your own consulting business.
