Why Most Founders Struggle to Hire A-Players
Welcome to the Dojo!
I once lost $24K hiring the wrong person.
That sting still shapes how I think about building teams today.
This week’s newsletter is about helping you avoid those same hiring scars—how to spot real A-players, make better decisions under pressure, and keep the people who truly move the needle.

Let's Train
We think hiring is about finding A-players.
It’s not. It’s about becoming the kind of company A-players want to join.
In my first business, I rushed to fill a sales role. I didn’t understand the work, I just wanted relief. Three months later, I learned the hard way: relief without results is just delay.
Here’s what I now teach founders about building A-player systems:
1️⃣ Define Excellence Early
A-players crave clarity. If you can’t define what success looks like, they can’t aim for it.
2️⃣ Hire for Character
Skills can be learned; values can’t. Look for humility, curiosity, and ownership.
3️⃣ Create an Honest Environment
When people trust leadership, they give more of themselves. Share your numbers, your challenges, your vision.
4️⃣ Reward Growth
Top performers stay where they grow — not where they coast. Give them new challenges and room to lead.
When you do these four things, you stop chasing talent — and start attracting it.

The Challenge
A founder asked: “How can I keep great people when I can’t pay top-market salaries?”
🛠️ What I Told Them
You can’t outpay big firms.
But you can out-trust them.
Be transparent about what’s possible now — and what’s coming next.
Show growth, follow through, and your A-players will grow with you.
Sharpen Your Blade
I’ve generated $65 million in sales across seven businesses — and the secret isn’t some hack, it’s PEOPLE.
In this video, I show you step-by-step how to:
✅ Find A-players who can transform your business
✅ Recruit them (even if you don’t have cash)
✅ Retain them so they don’t leave for the competition
This is the exact process I used to build and sell an 8-figure business in 2019.
If you want to go from side hustle to 7 or 8 figures, mastering this ONE skill — building a people-first culture — is your biggest advantage.
