How to create professional independence

Black Belt Startup

Welcome to the Dojo!

Happy Independence Day (to those of us in the US)!

I hope you're able to spend some time with family and friends today, enjoy a backyard meal, and recharge. Entrepreneurship is a marathon, and taking time to reset is part of the journey.

As we celebrate independence, it's also a good reminder that professional independence is built one capability at a time. Every skill you develop creates more options for your career, your income, and your future.

Enjoy the holiday, stay safe, and tomorrow let's get back to building that freedom together.

Wishing you and your family a happy, safe, and meaningful Fourth of July!

On the Mat

  1. Let’s Train: Many professionals spend years dreaming about having more freedom.
  2. Ask Feras: “I don't feel ready to start my consulting business. Should I wait another six months?”

Let's Train

Many professionals spend years dreaming about having more freedom.

Freedom over their schedule.

Freedom over the work they do.

Freedom over their income.

Freedom to spend more time with family.

Freedom to pursue ideas that excite them.

Ironically, many never achieve it.

Not because they lack intelligence.

Not because they lack work ethic.

Because they never develop the capabilities that create options.

Entrepreneurship isn't a shortcut to freedom, in many ways, it's harder than employment.

The early years often involve longer hours, greater uncertainty, and more responsibility.

But each skill you develop gives you something employment alone cannot always provide: optionality.

Every sales conversation makes you more valuable.

Every proposal teaches you how to communicate value.

Every client project improves your confidence.

Every referral expands your network.

Over time, those capabilities compound.

This week, I encourage you to declare independence from one belief that's holding you back.

  • Maybe it's waiting until you're ready: Very few entrepreneurs ever feel completely ready.
  • Maybe it's perfectionism: Progress beats perfection every time.
  • Maybe it's fear of selling: Selling isn't convincing people to buy something they don't need. It's helping the right people solve meaningful problems.
  • Maybe it's imposter syndrome: Confidence doesn't appear first. It follows action.
  • Or maybe it's believing your expertise is enough: Technical skill gets you in the game. Business skills determine how far you'll go.

Professional independence isn't built overnight, it's earned through consistent action.

Today, enjoy Independence Day and recharge.

Tomorrow, continue building. One capability at a time.

🔥 The Challenge

“I don't feel ready to start my consulting business. Should I wait another six months?”

🛠️ What I Told Them

If you already have valuable experience and are committed to learning, waiting rarely solves the problem. Start having conversations with potential clients now. You'll learn more in ten real conversations than six months of planning.
