Is Ghosting the New Normal Even for Business?
Welcome to the Dojo!
I rarely talk about business at home. But now that my kids are adultsâand see my content online (and are kind enough to like it đ)âthose conversations have started to flow.
After I recently wrote about how surprised I am when vendors go silent, my daughter said, âDad, you donât get itâghosting is everywhere these days.â
Sheâs right. Ghosting has become normalized in personal life, and Iâm seeing the same pattern in business. But if youâre serious about building a sustainable, profitable business, donât fall into that trap. Responsiveness can be your biggest differentiator.

Let's Train
Responsiveness isnât just politeâitâs profitable.
I used to think ghosting was a dating app thing. But lately, Iâm seeing it everywhere in business.
In the past couple of months, Iâve had five vendors or consultants go completely silentâpeople I was ready to pay, at the rate they proposed. Smart people, solid pitches⊠and then radio silence after a few basic follow-up questions.
And thatâs what gets me. Theyâre not losing deals because of talentâitâs because of a lack of responsiveness, which might be the most underrated business skill today.
Am I just old school? đ Is this a generational thing? Or are people simply less hungry for business?
To fellow entrepreneursâespecially those early in the journeyâIâll say this:
Responsiveness:
- Builds trust before money changes hands
- Isnât about personalityâitâs a habit you train and a muscle you build
- Helps you stand out and win more deals
I get it. Life gets busy. Weâve all got a lot going on. But if a prospect has to chase you, itâs already too late.
Thatâs why it stood out when a vendor recently emailed to apologize for delays. They owned the issue, explained what went wrong, and shared how they were fixing it. Professional. Human. Rare.
(And yes, Iâll share that vendorâs emailâredacted for privacyâbecause itâs a great example of taking ownership the right way.)
Iâll leave you with this, according to HubSpot:
- 75% of customers say response speed is the #1 factor in a great experience
- 60% say quick replies and solutions drive repeat business
So if youâre a founder, consultant, or freelancer, make responsiveness part of your culture. Because while everyone else is chasing new tools and tactics, the ones who simply show up fast and follow through will keep winning businessâand keeping clients.

đ„ The Challenge
This time someone asked this on Reddit âWhatâs the biggest cheat code youâve discovered that made everything easier?â
I get this question a lotâwhatâs the secret sauce, the formula, the one thing that makes success simple?
What I Told Them
The real âcheat codeâ (that most people donât want to admit) is⊠working really hard. Once thatâs in place, the next one is simple but takes discipline: tackle the big, tough problems first, and resist the temptation to hide in the small stuff.
Sharpen Your Blade
In 2019, I sold my 8-figure marketing analytics agency to Dentsu, the worldâs 4th largest media conglomerate.
But before that life-changing exit, I was a broke dishwasher in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In this video I share the 5 life lessons that took me from rock bottom to building, scaling, and selling a multi-million-dollar business:
- Why the people you spend time with shape your future
- The power of commitment (and why most people get it wrong)
- Why success isnât a straight line (and how to bounce back from failure)
- How to escape mediocrity and find work you love
- Why hard workâdone the right wayâalways pays off
